With more than 20 years of artistic trajectory, Mariana Isaza began her career at a very young age, making her debut as a soloist in works such as Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Requiem, Cherubini’s Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, and in Zarzuelas including La Corte del Faraón, La Leyenda del Beso, and Los Gavilanes.
She graduated as a Professional Musician with a specialization in lyrical singing from Universidad EAFIT (Colombia), and pursued advanced vocal studies at the Conservatori del Liceu (Barcelona) and the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía (Madrid) in the Alfredo Kraus Vocal Chair under the guidance of tenor Ryland Davies. She holds a Master’s degree in “Theatre and Performing Arts” from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She has participated in masterclasses with sopranos Ana María Sánchez and Sondra Radvanovsky; mezzo-sopranos Angelika Kirchschlager and Teresa Berganza; tenors Juan Diego Flórez and John Graham-Hall; baritone Christopher Maltman; and Maestro Ralf Gothóni.
A versatile artist with a commanding stage presence, Ms. Isaza has performed an extensive repertoire as a soloist across opera, zarzuela, oratorio, and art song. She has made numerous leading-role debuts in Madrid and other important cities throughout Spain, gaining increasing recognition as a prominent protagonist in the zarzuela genre, starring in some of the most important titles of the Spanish repertoire such as La rosa del azafrán, Luisa Fernanda, La Chulapona, La del Manojo de rosas, La Dolorosa, La Revoltosa, La verbena de la Paloma, La Corte del Faraón, La boda de Luis Alonso, El Bateo, Agua, azucarillos y aguardiente, and El barbero de Sevilla, among others.
Her operatic roles include Susanna, Contessa, Cherubino, and Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro, Musetta in La Bohème, Despina in Così fan tutte, Micaëla in Carmen, Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica, and Juliet in Leyendas de Bécquer, among others.
She is featured in the “50 Latin American Creators in Madrid” list by Casa de América, recognized as one of the foremost representatives of Colombian lyrical music worldwide—thanks to her frank, powerful, and brilliant voice, reflecting her mestizo heritage, and her fluid, energetic, and captivating acting and interpretative abilities.
